Re leaky stern gland.
Having had the same problem when we got "Tara" my recommendation would be to bite the bullet and get the kit from the UK to do the overhaul. Yes, the two end seals are easy to obtain but I found that the two bushings inside were badly corroded and definitely needed to be replaced. Also the control shaft was worn where it moves back and forth through the seals which further adds to the leakage of water so I replaced it as well. As Wilhelm says it is a good time to replace the stern bearing. Good luck!
