Re leaky stern gland.

Having had the same problem when we got "Tara" my recommendation would be to bite the bullet and get the kit from the UK to do the overhaul. Yes, the two end seals are easy to obtain but I found that the two bushings inside were badly corroded and definitely needed to be replaced. Also the control shaft was worn where it moves back and forth through the seals which further adds to the leakage of water so I replaced it as well. As Wilhelm says it is a good time to replace the stern bearing. Good luck!

Me three.

Another thing to consider while the shaft is out: Replace the corroded clamps on the black tubing that the stern gland/stuffing box connects to. I also replaced the black hose as well.

Thank you all for your advice what a great group of people to belong
too. I can't wait to get V1591 sailing soon and for all of you
how may worry I promise to hall out first before I start monkeying
around with the combo unit.

Also polish the whole length of shaft since the shaft goes thru the steady bearing--polish with very fine emery cloth. jorgen

Hi Jorghans;

so right you are... I didn't mention it, but from what
I've seen at the photo, everything needs a little bit of
cleaning, greasing, and polishing.
