I think I possibly figured out why the new pump had an impeller problem with just a few hours since new. At least I found something not right on the original assembly. When I found the bad impeller, i just searched for a replacement impeller for that P/N pump. I didn't see a exploded parts diagram for the pump.
When I had removed the cover the first time, there were two brass spacer washers on the same (cover) side of the impeller. I did think that seemed a bit unusual, but I figured being a brand new pump, the manufacturer must have wanted it that way.
While looking to order another impeller to keep on hand as a spare, I did find a parts breakdown with drawings. It showed that it should be one washer on each side of the impeller, not the way mine came from the factory. Looking at the assembly, that makes much more sense.
I think it's possible that having both spacers on one side could push the impeller against the side wall of the pump more than intended. Maybe it bound up or the extra friction made the rubber vanes separate from the center bushing.
I'll try emailing Oberdorfer again and I'll send pictures with the explanation. They still haven't responded to the first email, but I think they owe me an impeller.
