The one you linked to is not for a 3GM30F Yanmar.

The pump is a Johnson 10-24509-01. The price quoted to me was $211.53 and there is a Johnson 10-24509-02 which has a slightly higher water flow rate for $223.08

The yanmar Part Number is 128377-42500
Joker, thanks for the information. I searched their site for a 3GM30F pump, it came up with a pump and said it was no longer available, a link directed me to this part !

After reading their "no returns after 15 days" policy I used their contact page to send them the serial number for our engine and asked for a quote for a pump and asked if they could ship it to the Bahamas.

Thanks, I really appreciate your advice and input on this.

Depco is a great company to do business with. Very easy and helpful to deal with on the phone. I found rebuilding a raw water pump for my Yanmar 2GM20F more difficult than anticipated as the shaft had not been removed for over 25 years and was pretty cruddy. Although rebuilding is much cheaper, in the end if you rebuild it's like putting a new saddle on an old horse -- the interior housing is still old and subject to wear and sealing issues. Buy a new pump for +/-$200 from Depco, rebuild the old pump for the experience it provides, then stow it for an emergency spare.

Don't be so sure that it's the wrong pump. I have a 2GM20F and it has a Johnson Pump, it came that way brand new. That pump also uses a different impeller and has An O ring seal on the impeller cover rather than a paper gasket. It probably won't make any difference which pump it is other than adapting to the bracket.

When you get a chance, let us know how nice it has been so far.

All U Get
So far the trip has been very good. We moved from Stuart Fl to Lake Worth on Wed. We anchored off Peanut Island for the night beside a buddy boat a Bavaria 42. We pulled our anchors up at 5 am Fri morning and had a great crossing, just enough wind to put up our jib and get a little boast and less roll in the swells. We arrived in West End at 3 in the afternoon. In time for a cleanup, a sundowner and a great grouper dinner.

The weather was very warm yesterday. Today is very windy and and rainy so we are sitting tight and spending time on the internet looking at the options for our raw water pump. Depending on weather we will move on to Great Sale Cay tomorrow or the next day, then Green Turtle and finally Marsh Harbour. Then sail the Sea of Abaco for the next six weeks.

I'll post a report on how we eventually make out with this raw water pump and put up a trip photo album on my profile here as we did last year.

thanks again to all for the great advice, Bob and Sherry

thanks Claude, much appreciated. It looks like some kits include a new shaft and some don't. I guess my main concern right now is does the bushing seize on these pumps or do they just leak water. A bit of water is no concern, no cooling water because the pump stopped is. The engine ran at normal temps all day no cooling issue.

Bob,
I would also suggest you look closely at the shaft to seal mating area. The area should clean and smooth without any scratches or grooves.

I would call a parts place in Fort Lauderdale for a new pump
and have your friend bring with him.

Thanks Woodster ! you are the best !

I really appreciate all the suggestions and support from this forum. We have not moved yet because of weather.Tomorrow should be good and we will make a 60 nm jump to Great Sale Cay, another day and half and we will be in Marsh. It sure sounds like I'll be able to get a pump there. I just hope ours will hang in that far. The winds don't look very good to sail there.

thanks again all, I'll let you know how we make out, Bob

Bob O4,

why are you buying a new pump when only the water seal needs to be replaced? It's a cheap part and takes no more than 20 mins to replace it. Once the pump is off, and the clip(spring clip) is removed the whole thing comes apart and you can replace the washer and put the pump back on, I know I did mine 3 years ago, checked the bearing, everything looked fine and life has been great - I think it cost me $10 in total. Why buy a new car when all you need is air in the tires, right?

Bob, if you need quick fix for time being, just tap out the bearing-shaft assembly, ply out the oilk seal from body and replace. Clean up the shaft portion where the oil seal meets. Put everything back. That should last awhile more till you rebuild the pump assermbly or replace new.
If you give or PM me your email I'll send you a Work Instruction for the rebuilding of pump.
Its an easy fix.

I bought one today for my boat, 2003 Hunter 356, a 2003 Yanmar 3GM30F for $224.48 from Depco Pump in Clearwater. Suggest you call them and have them ship to Bahamas. I should have mine in 2 days.

For those that have changed out the pump, how difficult was it to get the hoses off and back on? Any tips would be appreciated.

I am going to take off the old one, then call them about a repair kit. I should have asked about the price when I bought this pump. I've got 1227 hours on mine.

Thanks for the tip. Where did you get the extra bracket to turn it around? I have a speed seal and it only takes a few minutes to change, but it would be nice to have it facing forward. I am always a little skeptical of how tight my belt is even though I mark the location on the slide.

I wonder if the 3GM30 can use the bracket like on my 07 3YM30
and looks just like the above used and faces forward.
My seal was leaking and rebuilt it easy with over sized sockets the first time ever for me and if you can get the new seal from Yanmar with out getting the whole kit and my bearings were fine.

The bracket is from Yanmar and is for the 3YM30. The modification uses all the exisitng brackets so that it can be put back to the original condition if required.

The only caveat is, there needs to be enough room between the front of the water pump and the stairway enclosure.

Joker460, this mod is still on my to do list since last attempt I had the pump pulley scraping the crank pulley. I've figure out what need be done.
This is good mod. :D
