When canal boating in england, some of the boats had a swing-out [or away] seat that you could rest your weary body on.
I now have a Hunter 33 with a wheel and I'm getting tired of standing. Everyone says "use the autopiolet and go sit down]
I guess that I'm too new to sailing to trust it or something.
Any ideas?

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I thought about taking one of those seats that they use for bass boats and placing it behind the helm so I could put it up or down quickly.

Honestly, I spend a ton of time under autohelm. It is nice not to be tied down to the helm. It also gives you the opportunity to give your sails a lot more attention and tweak the trim on them.

I just noticed WM has one on sale for about $100 right now. Checked it out in the store and it isn't too bad. Price is still a little steep for me though.

One of the best things I ever bought for my boat was a beanbag chair. It will fit into any shape, any place, forms to your buns, and stays in place. I also liked the WM folding seat, will also work as a flat cushion. We stopped dragging the formed and fitted cockpit cushions out every time we sailed and only used the formed ones once we were at the destination.

Here are some pics of a helm seat I designed and built for my 44DS. Comes apart in two pieces for stowage in the large cockpit locker. 2 minutes up and 2 down.

I did

I used a seat like rick 486 used but drilled a hole through my flip down seat and mounted a power boat mount inside the flip down helm seat so it still flips down for the walk through swim ladder but when up the seat and very short extension pipe drops into the mount and with short pipe raises my seat for me to see over my chartplotter and give me good position to steer and sit and see very good.
I can sit at the helm with auto on and relax and stilol see all over and seat does swing around also,I can't show photo my photo's on my removable storage for this note book just not with me now at airport in Florida headed for Bahama's.
Sorry my seat is easy to remove and place in to position but can't show photo at this time and was cheap to do,just need need to take apart helm seat drill hole and mounting plate in between helm seat so it still will fold down
