Radio interference from solar controll

So I installed a solar panel running it through an MPPT type controller. The controller is mounted above the companion way steps, so about 6 feet from the fixed mount VHF down below and the same distance from the hand held in the cockpit and I am getting a bunch of backgroud static. If I take the hand held and go forward on the boat, problem solved, so I know (think) it is the controller. If I cover the panel with a blanket, no change.

Anyone had this problem and can offer a solution?
I am also going to put this question to the maker of the controller soon as I get back to the boat and get a name off the controller.

To help nail the source down, confirm whether the noise is present on the fixed VHF after disconnecting or removing the solar charge controller - it still may be noisy even when the panel is covered. Also, where is your VHF antenna, and is it connected properly?

Solar MPPT controllers are known sources of RFI, especially on SSB radios. Most people I know turn off the controller when using a radio. You might want to try relocating the controller and wiring away from your radio and antenna line.

Controller uses PWM and has turned you wiring into an broad spectrum antenna. Shield your leads and/or place a balun on them, or shorten them if possible.

Well I guess I have my work cut out. the controller can't be just turned off and on, it has to be disdconnected from the panel and batteries in a specific order.
