We are competeing in the Long Beach Regatta Feb 18 thru 20.. We've chartered a Catalina 37...I don't even know what it looks like. We sail an A-scow which has no keel and is 38 feet in length. It has an asymetrical shoot, main and jib. It takes 6 to 7 people depending on the air. Any suggestions on getting familair with this boat?

You probably have chartered a Catalina 38, they do not make a 37. Try :http://www.catalina38.org/

Not true At Ease!

Catalina did make a 37 (don't any more). They are an open racing-only boat (no cabin), unlike any other Catalina. To my knowledge, they are only sailed in SoCal, out of the LA/Long Beach area. I see them listed periodically in the SoCal "Log" and "Santana" (SoCal sailing publications). Apparently only a few made. I've never seen one. Finding info may be difficult...

Catalina 37

At Ease et al, I've added a link, below, to the Catalina website where you can see some photo's and read a bit of info about the Catalina 37. It looks like these boats were first built in 1990 for the Congressional Cup. Mark

Boat Info on this site

There is some limited info and a photo under the Boat Info tab from the homepage on the Capri 37 (see Related link below). Hope this helps, Trevor

is a one design built specifically for regattas such as the Congressional Cup. Most boats are leased to crews for the regatta. Boat prep and sails are strictly regulated. The idea is for all of them to be exactly the same so the crews compete equally against each other. Very much like car racing's IROC series. They are a high performance design, similar to 1D35, Schock 35, Mumm 30, etc. Racing sailors involved with these types of boats would find little interest in this forum because it is dominated by novice questions and cruising/ daysailing type subjects.
