Mates; The sailing season is about to get into full swing in most areas of the US and I thought I'd take a different tack. Instead of rambling on with a topic that may not be of interest to everyone, I thought I'd just throw it open to any items that are of interest to beginners to intermediates. There are only 4 items to contend with concerning sail trim. They are draft depth, draft position, twist and angle of attack. I call these items "The Four Elements Of Sail Trim". If you understand these terms you are almost home from a sail trim standpoint. Next, you have to know how your sail trim controls effect these items. The sail trim controls for the mainsail that control the 4 elements are the traveler, mainsheet, halyard, outhaul, cunningham, boom vang, mast bend and leech cord. The sail trim controls that control the 4 elements for the jib are the jib sheets, halyard fairleads (forward and aft), fairleads (iinboard and outboard) and headstay sag. Another important element is your telltails. They are the primary system of checks and balance for the mainsail and jib trimmer. The above is the complete story of sail trim. If you understand how all these items interact your all the way home from a sail trim standpoint.Anyone have any specific questions on any of the above??
