I was just at an in-the-water boat show at Metro-Beach Park in Mt.Clemens, MI. We saw a '93 C-30 tall rig. We were completely taken with the boat. I am a power boater but this boat made me think about turning to sail. This particular boat is a little out of my price range--$49,000; I was wondering how long have they been making this particular model/layout. I was thinking we wouldn't mind buying a little older(cheaper) boat if it was the same or very similar to this '93 C-30. We particularly liked the cabin and galley. Thanks! Colin

I'm pretty sure that the '93 has pretty much the same lines as the '87. Prior to that, you're looking at a bigger version of the C27 (in looks). The older the boat, the less sparkly it will be but you can find some smokin' deals (check out our Boats for Sale forum). LaDonna

Old C30s Never Die

We bought an '81 C30 2 years ago. It was a shade under $30K. If you liked the '93, you'll love the '80s boats. Get one with all the gear (A/C, spinnaker, instruments, maybe some properly done renovation) and its all we need for a lake. Our offshoreing is done on a charter boat but I find that they are not that much better equipped than our 20 year old. With a little elbow grease we've ended up with one of the most beautiful boats on the lake. The older C30 TMs with the wood rails and bowsprit look very classic but the boat has all the advantages of a fiberglass boat. Take a little sandpaper and Cetol to it, cover it, clean it..... great boat. We also seem to be in front of the 310s and 320s so far in the races. Hope that holds on. Ed

older C-30's

Colin, You may find this link informative. We have a 91 C-30 and sail Lake St Clair and Lake Huron and suggest that you might consider a shoal draft or wing keel due to the recent low lake levels. Happy to hear of your pending transition to a sail boat. Tom Behrendt

Hi John, I also have an '88 C30 (tr/bs) with dinette. I have a battery question for you. I have 2 group 27’s under the starboard settee and 1 under the quarter birth for starting. It appears that you have 2 more batteries stashed somewhere. Where did you put them? My refrigerator eats up the house bank too fast. I have a 75-amp alternator, which will handle 2 banks easily.
