We all know that chainplates are an integral part of every sailboat standing rigging. One of the best riggers in the PNW is unfortunately no longer with us but Brion Toss’s shop and understudies are. I bet if they don’t actually do the work, they will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Thank you for that, Len! I got in contact with them, and it looks like they do this kind of work. Much appreciated!

Ian Weedman runs the shop now and he is as knowledgeable as they come.

I met Ian when he was apprenticing under Brion in 2018. I found him to be very friendly and helpful chap. Ian also oversaw the re-rigging of our very good friend’s 2002 Island Packet 350 the following year. She was very pleased with the outcome.
Years ago in my previous life, the shipyard maties used to load test all the onboard cranes and lifting devices on a regular basis. It was not my part ship so I didn’t pay much attention to the process. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t some simple non destructive testing that can be done to prove the chain plates. I have also experienced x-ray and ultrasound testing as John has spoke of but that may not be feasible for a recreational vessel.
Again good luck and keep us abreast of your progress

It would be cool if there was a way to determine the condition of the chainplates; maybe ultrasonically?
There is no technique that can reliably detect crevice corrosion on embedded chain plates.

X-ray doesn't have the required resolution, especially on embedded chain plates. Ultrasonics might work but would be very difficult to get reliable information and impossible on embedded plates. Dye penetrant can work, but not on embedded chain plates... There is no reliable method for the chain plates the OP has.
