Thinking about changing to a PSS shaft seal on my 1987 C30. It is powered by a 25xp with Hurth Tran. Not having any luck with the archives site trying to find out what the shaft diameter is and also the outside diameter of the stern tube. Thanks in advance for any help.

Here is the mesurements you need

Hi P.C. Took delivery of my boat a month ago. I had the boat yard foreman come on board and measure my boat up for the dripless shaft seal. I have a 1987 C30 MkII. Hull # 4936. Shaft size is 1" The tube size is 1 5/8". He also said to get the type that is for high speed. Although our shafts will not rev at high speed, this type has a small water line added to it. I believe it is there to cool and lubricate the seal thus extra life and less trouble. I plan on doing mine one day soon. It is on my list to do. Ken

GOF Packing

Why would you want to spend that much money and do that much work when you can use teflon packing. For $15, I was sent enough packing to do mine twice. I finally have a dry bilge. Sean http://www.e-marine-inc.com/products/gfopacking/packing.html

I second seanshine

I've had both the PSS and the GFO packing . While the PSS is kind of slick, its not without its foilbles (sp?). I now have the simple but nearly fool proof GFO and my stuffing box never drips. I don't think I'd ever go back to PSS when I have GFO

I went with

a PSS system. the only thing that I do each sprin is Break the seal at launch and make sure that water has completely filled the stern tube. After that I give it a visual each time I check the oil.
