Does anyone have experience with this piece of equipment? Is it worth the effort? Thanks

PSS seal

Hi Mike: I have not installed one myself, but I have talked to several who have and they report they work very well. That being said, I have found by experience, that teflon packing material and the teflon goop sold at West Marine and others, also works very well and is much less expensive. My Universal M25XP on my Catalina 30 does about 2-3 drips a minute when running and 0 drips when not. I have a completely dry bilge, as the engine heat is enough to evaporate the 3 drops a minute. In the end, that is the best the PSS seal can do, is give you a dry bilge, I have accomplished the same thing for less money. Good luck, Dave

Absolutely

My boat has had one since I bought it and my bilge only collects dust. The last time I found any water down there it alerted me to a dripping hot water heater. The PSS is less maintenance than "dripless" packing. Works good, lasts a long time.

Works Great

I installed one on my C-30 last spring. It works great, dry bilge like the others report. In order to install it, you have to pull the shaft, so I waited until my cutlass bearing was ready for replacement and then did both jobs. It was easier to reinstall than putting the packing gland back in. When the boat goes back in the water, you have to remember to burp the bellows to let water in, otherwise the seal will run dry initially and overheat. Once you do this one time, that's all there is to it. Go for it, a dry bilge can't be beat!
