propeller shaft bearing

can anyone tell me anything about the prop shaft bearing? can it be lubed? what kind of job is it to be replaced? have you done it? or have you had it done? how did you know it needed to replaced? what could happen if it is bad right now? possible eng. damage? please tell me what you might know about this . Thank you very much.

Easy if hauled out

It's an easy job if you have the right tools. If it's worn bad you'll start eating into the shaft, or worse, the strut. A good place to get all the info you need to change it out is at bobpone.com. It's a "below the waterline" maintenance guide for normal people written in layman terms.
