It seems strange to me that they're "brittle."
Mine are same age and still servicable, but I'd say these things;
1. CAVEAT - I try not to veer off original as a general statement, everything else introduces some risk
2. If its not completely solid, brittle, but has a crack or whatever, then it can likely be "plastic welded"
(Could also be noted as "not original" to an insurer. I wonder if they used plastic to absorb a small flash explosion, rather than fiberglass... this gets a bit more technical than I actually am. I just think, the volume of air (gas) minus the space the tabk displaces, means 5 liters left to "explode" and plastic might flex that much, fiberglass might not.)
3. Rudy, Rudy and Rudy as others noted above
4. If Rudy doesn't have it, also lookup, Joe Citron - boat salvage and has always responded to my messages
5. I didn't look up "thermo forming" companies, I think there are companies that produce plastic shaped things, but I don't know if they do "run of 1,000,000" at a time or if they do fabrication of low volume items.
