Problem in the Bow. Need to Empty but No Drain.

Right on!!!!... or Craig's List. Can't tell you how many tools I've "borrowed" on Craigs List. Buy it cheap, use it, relist it.

I call craig's list the community tool shed.

When I refurbished my keel.... I found an engine hoist for $75. Had to put a new jack on it for $40. Sold it for $125 when I was done and made $15 profit.

I just did a search on my local Craig's List for Shop Vac and got 81 hits... and I don't live near a big city.

I just purchased an '88 O'Day 272LE. The blackwater tank is in the bow under the v-berth. The hatch above the berth has apparently been leaking since I purchased it.

My issue is, there's nasty water in the front under the berth and while I'm trying to figure out where it's coming from, I need to get it out. It's not connected to the bilge (would've been too easy).

Are there any tricks to getting it out? There's not really room to get a pump down in there, and even if I did, it would only get most of it out. I'd like to get it all out and scrub it clean. Also, I think it's too low to siphon.

Any help is much appreciated.

It may be that the forward compartment was designed to be water-tight in case of a collision or other damage to the bow. My H280 front compartment (fresh water tank and water heater on my boat) does not drain into the bilge. I assumed it was for safety in case of a collision. But it is a pain to get rid of the water in and around the water heater when I drain it for the winter.....but my old shop vac does the trick just fine. I also use it to get the bilge really dry after cleaning it. I keep it in my dock box do it is always close by,
