Actually, its only a 92.3%, not nearly as bad. :poke::stir:

Of course, $50 a season for a mooring is pretty reasonable.

$50 a year?
That's about 2.5 days for me.
Yes, $6,841 a year in slip fees for a 30 footer.
Of course, that's better than Newport Beach, where a 30 foot slip is about $15,000 a year.

Never thought of it like that. Mine is about $5.06 a day for a 6 month slip rental. Boat is usually in the water about 5 1/2 months each year, so really about $5.50 a day. I'm not complaining!

CAL 35 Cruiser #21 moored EVERETT WA
Everett is charging about $370 per month. Or about $4400 a years. But think of all the great water you can sail. I thought about chartering, But you could spend that typ of money on a 1 week charter. And you’d be using someone else’s boat.

So buying and leasin space is better.Where else can you “winter sail”.

Politics. Maine likes to think they are taxing the rich. Is there an exemption for lobster boats?

Googling "annual mooring fee" got me this quote at the top of the page,
Once a private annual mooring buoy becomes available in the according wait-list location, the annual application fee is $50. The fee for the Annual Mooring Permit: residents, the annual cost is $1,000; non-residents, the annual cost is $1,800. For commercial use, the annual cost is$1,950.
This is for Annapolis MD.

With those town moorings do you own the actual mooring or does town own and maintain?? Here I have a mooring that is $150 per season, however I have to first buy the mooring, pay the yard (at their discretion) to maintain chain, pay to have it dropped in the spring and hauled and stored every winter. And the slip fee... at just over $20 per day assuming I get dropped in April and pulled at beginning of November. that keeps moving up each year. Once I get solar I may loose the slip and stay full time on the mooring.

do you all own the mooring and all this is a tax, or are you renting the mooring?
in sturge 35 years ago i bought a railroad wheel, had a 1" bar loop welded on for my chain, and i placed it in the bay in a mooring zone. then the locals 15 yrs later started taxing my mooring annually. i still have to annually maintain it myself.
still cheeper than those left coast fees

The thread encouraged me to calculate mine. Between club dues and dock fees, I'm about $7.50 a day. To @dlochner 's point, it was not depressing but a realization that I need to "earn" that money. Every day I stay at work late and the boat just sits there is wasted money. More sailing reduces the daily cost of ownership. Already planning the summer cruise!

While I don't calculate to the penny the cost of boat ownership, I do have a rough idea of what it costs. Basic annual expenses: winter storage, summer dockage, and insurance runs about $4K a year.

To @Parsons point about point about earning money, I hear ya! I retired almost 5 years ago. And learned shortly thereafter that if I was to travel the way I want and support my boat the way I want, then income needs to increase or I traveled less and spent less on the boat. I now work part time. :)

$4,000.00 per year? 36 ft boat at a dock? 36 ft boat stored on the hard? In NY? Insurance for 36 ft Sabre? No offense, but did you drop a decimal point somewhere Dave? :)

Nope. Not NY or LI Sound. Lake Ontario in a small town 50 miles N of Syracuse, 70 mile east of Rochester. Rochester is more expensive, Sacketts Harbor further north is more expensive. Small marinas along the South shore are quite reasonable. Insurance is just under $900, Summer dockage at a fixed dock is just under $2K. Winter storage and mast stepping and unstepping is ~$1.1 K.
