One thing is clear, I am gluing the card door shut and not taking the card in and out again....if I ever have to and the probability is low.
Of course, you'd have to access the card to do an update to the chartplotter.

My boat is in a secured marina with security personnel and locked gates. However, anyone with a dinghy can come on any of the floats.

The compact flash chips are indeed becoming obsolete but the thieves don't know that yet. I had a lot of trouble getting a compact flash memory card and card reader and particularly a memory card with 128Mb when all the cards are in Gb.

Glued the little door to the chip.

There was only one software update since I had the chart plotter and that didn't really have any affect on me. I am counting on mandatory updates being quite rare and if I have to, then remove the chart plotter from its cover to do that.

Now I am having trouble getting all the torx screws in, likely because of issues with the screw not catching the little brackets on the rim of the fiberglass enclosure for the chart plotter.

It has been a challenging season for this boat!

I have been thinking about the possibility of the theft of my Navionics gold card from my C80 chart plotter. This thread has prompted me to finally take action and simply remove the card from the plotter and store it below. I really do need to fabricate a sunbrella cover to cover the entire helm; however, simply removing the card solves the problem!
