Possible SmartPlug problem

The promised followup. The electrician replaced the wiring from the socket to the AC breaker in the starboard lazaret. The wiring was burnt too far up and needed replacement It still was overheating so I replaced the SmartPlug, female end All is well. This may have happened due to the location of the assembly low on the stern where it could be occasionally splashed causing corrosion.

Thanks for the report back! Yup, saltwater and electricity make a poor mix.

I've had two boats with 30A shore power systems, and both located the plug under the dodger/hard top. Zero problems. My suggestion is to relocate the inlet. Failing that, regular applications of waterproof grease on both the plug and the plug seal. Probably several times per season, depending on use.
