Waiting for the bowl to start and I'm planning my spring work. This year the jobn is to replace the old grey company four ports on my 1978 Hunter 27. In know that pomenettte (?) makes the prots now. Does any one out ther know the exact size of the old ports, I really don'tw want to go out in the snow and remove one of the old ports in order to measure them. This would leave the boat open (even though I have a cover over it)., for the rest of the winter. Thanks.

Educated guess, then measure.

Where's Steve Cook when you need him? But your ports are most likely the same as on my 1979 H37C. The larger ones are what the catalogs call '7 x 14' and the smaller ones '5 x 12'. I have six of the larger where I think you have four. But if you will lift your cover enough to measure the spigot dimensions(outside edge to edge) that is the size of the hole. About the same dimensions as the inside of the decorative frame around the spigot(outside of boat). I say "about" because some of the frames seem to fit rather loosely.

I agree with Ed

HI, I had the ports out on our H34, the size can be measured as Ed suggested. After you remove and replace one, you will wonder why you were so worried about the job! You will find it is easy. Just be sure to clean and dry everything before installing the new ports. I also compounded and waxed the hull, as it was much easier without the port frames in the way. John K s/v 50-50

Replacement Ports

Howard, The size for your ports in the main cabin are 7x15. The ones in the head and v-berth are 5x12. I own an 83 model H27 and have already been through the process. I replaced mine with bronze ports from New Found Metals.(www.newfoundmetals.com) Although more expensive than the plastic replacements from Bomar, the quality is worth the money if you can swing it. Nobody except bomar has a 7x15 portlight. The one I purchased is a 7x14. It was more work to install, but is possible. You will find the 5x12 is a common size with a few different companies. Check out JSI sailnet for the Bomar replacements.(www.sailnet.com) They had the best prices for these ports last time I checked. Tell the salesman you need the Bomar replacement for Grey Industries ports. They also have replacement lenses, knobs, gaskets and other parts. I bought some lenses before buying new ports. I broke the frame on one portlight while driving out the pin that holds the lens in! That is one of the reasons I bought the bronze metal ports. If you would like, you can contact me at h27@gate.net and I'll help in any way I can. Good luck, Howard Sherman SV Escape

Ports for 78 Hunter 27

I agree with Howard. Replace the ports. I replaced mine with 5 x 12 ports ordered from West Marine store. The aft ports are another story and I am still looking. They are an odd size and hard to find. Replacing the v-berth and head ports was easy but requires two persons, one on the outside and one inside to remove the bolts. Good luck.
