Not to be at all rude, but what's the problem being offshore at night with all the modern goodies available today like GPS if one is a proficient sailor?Who have boats and have had for years, who do not have enough confidence to do an overnight offshore hop without someone else they trust aboard.
Off shore there should be no rocks and highly traveled areas would be just as difficult to navigate in daylight as in the dark. A lot of times I prefer the dark sailing as it's cooler, there isn't any glare from the sun, boats are lit and their direction more discernible than on a hazy day and there are fewer small craft puttering about. If one gets to the other end before dawn, one can just take down the sails and drift until they can see. Just asking.
