yeah--i refuse to have surgery on mine LOL--yes--approach from upwind, in neutral.....go to bow---get ready to pick buoy---boat will come down onto pennant not ball---pennant from buoy is a few ft from ball----and pull fast the line and attach before you realize that the line is pulled and you are on the ball and done lol..very very easy and simple to do -- even looks perfect every time....cannot do it fast--has to be slow in neutral...just upwind from ball and pennant the drift will line you perfectly....Zeehag, your response makes a lot of sense from an arm strength perspective. I really need to avoid continually re-straining them or I could end up with surgery, which my PT Wife tells me rarely works out very well.
So, just to recap, you approach from upwind and grab the pick up buoy. Doesn't that mean that you have to dodge your mooring ball and end up running over your mooring lines? Or do you approach at an angle to avoid that?
mainesail--sometimes our winds arent as strong as the current in which our mooring field is located--in which case use the current as the guide--if the wind is stronger than the current then use the wind as the guide....in a 20 kt wind in a 4 kt current, no problem--use wind as guide for the placement of the boat--upwind....if the current of 4 kts is heavier than a 3 kt breeze, i use the current as my guide for placement......then i place upcurrent from buoy and go from there.....takes practice and more practice.....and i kneel so my arms donot have to work a shard as with standing....i keep my buoy attached to the eyes of my mooring lines and slip these over the cleat or samson post and i am done.....
