I am considering making a request to ye ole race committee for a new PHRF number. I want to load up with data. Any 29.5 racers out there? What's your club PHRF number? Do you finish in the top 5 regularly? How's you boat equiped?

Ratings

I am going through the same process for my H320. It takes a few years to get anything, but in my opinion, Hunters are rated very low overall. From what I have learned, you can better results by what your boat is doing against boats in your area. That is, how you placed against boats on the same course with the same wind. It is kind of a catch 22, as you have to loose enough to get the point of having the rating high enough to win. Looking at the PHRF book, there arn't that many Hunters that race, so getting ratings from others may not be the way to go. Good luck in your quest. Steve

The rating delema continues...

Andy, I have been racing the 29.5 since 1994. I have at least one flag per season. My rating is 189. Lake Huron PHRF allows an additional 6 seconds for roller furling - making the rating a 195. I also have a folding prop, reducing my rating by 3 seconds - making it a 192. About 4 years ago I wrote an article on racing the 29.5. Send my an email and I will forward it to you. bruce.leidal@usa.net

It can be done!

I had my H34 rating changed with the Lake Michigan PHRF committee, but you need to produce a mountain of supporting material. Most PHRFs are not interested in beer can JAM events in the evening. They want round the buoy spin events on Sat. or Sun. when the wind is stable, to evaluate. A few off shores thrown in also help. Get all the data you can in these events. AND, You need to show how your boat compares to other well known high production models in the other areas that have similar wind conditions. Other models, t-10s, J-24s, J-30s, S-2s. Sanfrancisco is considered windy and Tampa is lite wind. What your are comparing is the DIFFERENCE in the spread between your boat and the others. To big (or to small depending if you are comparing to a slower or faster boat)a spread in your area may indicate they need to adjust your PHRF. Obviously pick the boats that support your case. Also note that in most cases these other boats all have about the same spread amongst themselves, as there are a lot of them for PHRF to gather data and make their rulings. Good luck PJ We asked for 6 sec and got 3
