Does anyone with a 29.5 have a PHRF rating? We are racing the boat for the first time next weekend & would like to have an idea what our rating will be. thanks, John

Good luck

I got tagged with a 183 number with a roller furling jib and a folding prop. Others have told me their number was as high as 192. I can never come close to racing my indicated number. Pray for the number to be high and the winds to be hihg too! The more it blows the better we do, but I still think the number should be 190 or so. Let us know what your race committee gives/takes!

PHRF Rating on H290

My H290 has a 198. Standard factory sail set (110% Genoa), 3-blade prop, not much else. In heavy winds, I'm competitive, in light winds, haven't a chance.

Hunter PHRF Numbers

I was wondering if the original writer has obtained his PHRF rating, and what it is? I haven't noticed many Hunters listed in the Chesapeake Bay PHRF listings and no 290's or 29.5's. We have had a rating of 174 on our deep draft 28.5 with folding prop and find she is competative with that rating against some similarly rated C&C 29&30's, Pearson 30's and First 305's. The 28.5 is typicaly faster upwind and in light air. I don't know how the newer fractional rigged boats with wider shroud base and no backstay perform against the older mast head designs like the 28.5, but aparently the ratings seem to indicate a difference. See the spec sheets in the Boat Information forum for interesting sail area, waterline length and dispalcement comparisons. I would think you would still need at least a 135 Genoa and a folding prop to be competative, even though the 29.5 has a much bigger mainsail. It would be interesting to hear from any 280, 290 and 29.5 racers.
