Hunter PHRF Numbers
I was wondering if the original writer has obtained his PHRF rating, and what it is?I haven't noticed many Hunters listed in the Chesapeake Bay PHRF listings and no 290's or 29.5's.We have had a rating of 174 on our deep draft 28.5 with folding prop and find she is competative with that rating against some similarly rated C&C 29&30's, Pearson 30's and First 305's. The 28.5 is typicaly faster upwind and in light air.I don't know how the newer fractional rigged boats with wider shroud base and no backstay perform against the older mast head designs like the 28.5, but aparently the ratings seem to indicate a difference. See the spec sheets in the Boat Information forum for interesting sail area, waterline length and dispalcement comparisons. I would think you would still need at least a 135 Genoa and a folding prop to be competative, even though the 29.5 has a much bigger mainsail. It would be interesting to hear from any 280, 290 and 29.5 racers.
