What is the current PERF for a Catalina 27, tall rig, fin keel, with inboard. I understand this may be different in various regions. Anyone got a web cite?

It is going to be close to other regions. Try to contact the local clubs that sponsor regattas to see how they rate the C27. If there aren't any why are you asking?

PHRF on kentucky lake

John....local adjustments to the PHRF handicap are admistered by the respective members clubs based on many factors. Contact the local yacht clubs in your area to find out the particulars. According to the Lake Michigan PHRF your boat's base handicap it 198... So... your next step is to call the Kentucky Lake Sailing Club and get the specific information you need. Here's their info. http://www.klsc.net/ You should also look into the local PHRF membership requirments. Many PHRF sanctioned races require yacht club affiliation. http://www.lmphrf.org/Look_Up_a_Handicap/look_up_a_handicap.html http://www.racemorf.org/

Why Ask? Wind Blows From All Directions

Thanks for your feedback. I ask because. . . I am a member of the KLSC. Our club races use one source for the perf, while individual regattas often use another source resulting in different figures for the same boat and body of water. I am trying to find out what it actually should be. Are other areas finding the same "floating perf" in their area using the same waters?

Wind from all directions

is the key! The PHRF is whatever the club running the race or regatta says it is. Different club PHRF committees can assign different numbers based on their take on how the 27 should do locally compared to other boats. Example: I sail in a river system. At my club, the usual race is pretty much direct upwind/downwind, no reaches, and comparatively light winds (10-12 knots). The 27 will perform differently relative to other local boats in a race here than it will on a typical triangle course on, say SF Bay (70 miles away), where 20-25 knots is the norm. Our club uses the base rate for SF Bay of 198 for a standard rig, outboard powered, full race boat, but then modifies it for local conditions. Last time I raced, I was assigned 201. PHRF means "PERFORMANCE Handicap Racing Fleet". If you have one type of boat that wins all the time, the PERFORMANCE relative to other boats is such that that boat stands a chance of having his handicap number adjusted by the PHRF committee so that other boats have a fighting chance.
