I lost mine somewhere in the Atlantic, had a new one made from the original mold but believe it's too light. Trying to figure out what the original was made of and how much it was suppose to weigh. What's yours made of and do you know how much it weighs?

I have a 1986 P36-2 that was a similar design. Though I am not certain, the board appears to be of fiberglass construction and is not all that heavy..... I am able to lift it into the trunk when on the hard. I can't remember where but a weight of 250lbs sticks in my head.... not sure if I read it in some liturature. I will check my Pearson data to see if I can dig it up.

Yes Rudy knew where the mold was and had a guy lay it up, but they hadn't done a Pearson 39 board before. Never used the mold unitl I showed up. The weight did come out to around 250lbs. The interesting thing is that the old board was a bear to winch up but this one my 7 year old can crank up which leaves me to believe the previous, which I believe was the original, was a lot heavier, I guess it's possible the piviot axel could be looser than the previous but we had taken the old one out a number of times and after reinstallation it was always just as hard to raise. Maybe the prior owern had it modified? Doesn't seem likely he didn't race her. My crew used to disapear when it was time to raise the centerboard now my kids can do it. She bangs around in the trunk a lot more, it's concerning, so perhaps there is too much play and she's just very very loose.
When I first purchased my boat the center board was a bear to bring up... this is the story with many owners. I took the cable assembly apart and found a frozen sheive in the bottom housing. I had it replaced and now the board comes up easily... even a 7 year old can do it. Maybe in all the messing around you broke free a semi frozen sheive.
also did you see them reinstall the board or did you do it? Are there bushings on the sides of the board between the board and the trunk?? If they left them out it would explain the banging. Or just wait until a bit of growth develops up there......
On the P36-2 the cable comes down from the deck... passes through a ss pipe that leads to the engine compartment. From there, the cable passes through a total of three ss water tight sheive housings leading to the board. It may be different on the P39-2.... just go below and trace the cable run.
