Pearson 36-2 deck leaks at support post

Just forward of the mast is a rod that supports the deck. It is thru bolted at the deck, and then bolted to a support on the mast. It is meant to be removed when unstepping the mast. We have tried many ways to stop this from leaking, to no avail. We believe that the only true solution will be to glass it in at the top, and then unbolt it at the mast when unstepping.

Has anyone else successfully solved this issue in any other way? We have been battling this for years. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a photo of where it is leaking? I'll check my P38 this weekend as basically they are the same vessel.

I have a 1986 P36-2. Not really sure what you are talking about. Just forward of the mast I have the deck stiffener that attaches to the mast then goes up through and attaches to the mast partner. This remains under the mast boot so there is no leaking there for me.

Then forward of that I have the baby stay "rod" below deck that is just aft of the forward bulkhead. It attaches to a U bolt on the deck that the baby stay attaches to. I have and most P36-2s that I have seen have a turnbuckle here with a cleavis pin that is removed when the mast is taken down. I did have a major problem with this leaking and just fixed it.... The core under the U bolt was shot so I removed the U bolt, dug out rotted core in a 6+" surrounding area, then filled with epoxy. I then bedded the U bolt properly and now have no leaks and a solid deck.
