Pearson 30 Chicago
I have a 1976 Pearson 30. The icebox drains into the bilge which means anytime I put ice in the icebox I need to clean out the bilge. The amount of water that collects in the bilge is never high enough to use the built in bilge pump so I end up using a hand held bilge pump to get out as much water as I can and then using a sponge to clean up the rest. Since the opening in the floor is not directly over the lowest point of the bilge, the pump leaves a significant amount of water behind requiring me to reach down into the bilge with the sponge to soak up all the water. The whole process is is time consuming and uncomfortable.

Has anyone found a solution to make this easier, or is this just something Pearson 30 owners have become accustomed to?

Jordan, if you tire of this method of water removal, you might want to consider installing a drain fitting in the bottom of your box and running a hose from the drain fitting/barb to a location under the sink where you can connect it to a hand pump which would direct the water to your sink drain. It is fairly easy and straightforward if you have access to the bottom of your icebox. If not, keep pumping. Ron

In mine, the previous owner directed the icebox drain hose into a pot under the sink.

To drain the icebox, I open the cabinet, put the pot on the cabin floor, stick the end of the drain hose in it, open the valve and wait. When the pot is full, I shut off the valve, pick the pot up and dump it down the sink.

Sometimes have to do that twice to fully drain the icebox, but it's simple as dirt.
