I have owned a 1971 Pearson 26 for about 10 years. It came with a Johnson 9.9 OB. However, from the time I got it I had to take out the bolt at the hinge between the tiller arm and the head because in tilting the engine out of the water there wasn't enough room because the tiller arm hit the front of the well. Anyway after 10 years the tiller arm itself broke and is flailing around (although temporarily functional with tape) but it's days are numbered.
My question is does anybody know what 9.9 OB might be available that would fit the well without having to detach the tiller in order to tilt the engine out of the water. I would like a 9.9 not a smaller one because smaller ones don't come with an alternater. Interestingly a friend has a pearson 26 of similar vintage and just got a tohatsu which works BUT his motor well is larger than mine.

I just recently bought a '79 Pearson 26 with the original '79 Evinrude 9.9 hp. The tiller/throttle handle folds up when tilting the engine up. I don't know what the availability is for this motor or similar but from what I've heard there are quite a few out there in the $500 - $600 range. Parts seem to be plentiful.

If your thinking new OB, Yamaha shows swing dimensions on the specifications page. They also say the T9.9 was redesigned and has a smaller head unit.
I would expect most manufacturers would show the swing specs on their sites.
