Cleaning Fuel Tank
Last year I purchased a 1974 C27. One of the problems I had with my A4 was that my carb was clogging with a white powder. I concluded that my tank needed to be cleaned. I drained and removed my fuel tank and put some new clean gas in it along with some gravel. I swished the gas and gravel around and drained it again. I added more gas swished it around and drained out the residue. I then left it out in the sun for a few days to dry. I think I did a pretty good job. I cleaned out the carb, reconnected the tank, and it started right up. However, after running the A4 for about two hours the problem reoccurred. This time I replaced the hose between the tank and carborator with an new SAE approved fuel hose($15) and inserted a Racor gas/water filter($60). Since then my A4 has been running perfectly. Accordinly, I would recommend that you replace the hose and add a filter before you go to the trouble of cleaning the tank. However, if you must, the gravel/gas method worked for me. Hope this helps,Bob
