Painting Topsides

My 1972 Catalina 27 is faded on the topside and has a orangish yellow color which I do not care for. I would like to know if I could paint the whole topside and cockpit area in the slip ? Has anyone done this ? If so what is the best paint and technique to use, thank you Andre

Aloha I have a 1974 Catalina 27. And yes you can paint the top-side in the water.I did mine and everyone thinks it's a new boat. The paint I used was Interlux--Brightside. Prime first than 2 coats finish. The seacet is not to paint in the sun. You can e-mail me at jl@mciworld.com if you need more help. But yes you can and get a great finish Good-luck

Try something else first

I did this a few years ago & it wasn't just an easy snap. I would have tried something else first if I had only known! Try a product called FSR which you can get at West Marine. It's basically oxalic acid in gel form and will probably clean that orange color right off. The just try buffing. Go to our Gelcoat Forum & ask about Island Girl products - I understand they're excellent. Try this before going to the pain & expense of repainting. Good luck!LaDonna
