Does anyone know the size of the packing for the drive shaft on a Pearson 303? The drive shaft is 1" dia.

If the male threads of your stuffing box are approx 1.5" then you need 1/4" if the male threads are less than 1.5" and closer to 1.38" then you need 3/16"..
You can measure either the inside of the female nut or the male threads and subtract the 1" shaft.
In this photo we see a nut diameter of 1.38 inches. We now subtract the shaft, of 1 inch, and we're left with .38 inches. Next divide .38 inches by 2 and you get .19 inches or a 3/16 inch packing.
