Does anyone know the correct size/type of the packing gland "stuffing" used for the packing gland/engine "stuffing box" on a 1987 Pearson 31-2 (Yanmar 2GM20F)? I am trying to purchase it ahead of time in anticipation of re-stuffing the gland while the boat's in the water, so knowing the right size and being able to cut the "rings" in advance of removing the old "stuffing" would be hugely helpful. Thanks.

Quint, If you measure your shaft diameter, you can go to any of the packing gland websites to get your proper size packing material. Or , you could measure the space between the shaft and the inside lip of the packing gland. I have used the GFO dripless packing with great success but there are a number of other options. Good luck and good sailing, Ron

When was the last time you removed the entire stuffing box and replaced the hose? I got a new stuffing box and hose when I purchased my boat 6 years ago and just last year again removed and got it cleaned, repacked and a new hose from the same prop guy. I used the driples GFO when I first got the new box which was great... however they used a grafite packing this time which they swear is better... last year not a drip all season.

Good Luck!
