Oh yeah, that's wrong. And it is probably not original.

Water needs to be injected before the rubber hose and it should be positioned such that water can not back flood into the exhaust manifold. That's why I have the 180° elbow and what the PO was trying emulate with the hose in the middle of the system.

For comparison, the riser on the left is a copy of the factory's original and the one the right is a homemade one after the original failed at the beginning of a cruise and I had to get home. This was on a 1981 Sabre 30 with a Volvo MD7A motor. All of the parts in both are black iron and available at any big box HW store except the 180° elbow, McMaster-Carr has them.

I would agree.
The location of that straight bit of hose is suspect.
On my engine, different from yours, the exhaust pipe is much longer and totally wrapped. Then the water injection and then the hose.
It looks like this.

Great! Thank you for the advise and support. By "blue hose" do you mean black exhaust hose with the blue stripe?
Not that I should answer for Stu but I think he means the blue hump hose shown in the picture in his post #13 above. It is silicon hump hose. While it doesn't have to be silicone, silicone is generally better because it is usually more flexible, has higher temperature ratings and lasts longer. It is, of curse, more expensive.

Edit: John beat me to it.

Westerbeke has these exhaust risers for sure. I replaced one a couple years ago that I got from them.

I know this is backtracking a little bit, but has the coolant pump been completely exonerated as of yet?

The last pieces came in today for assembling a new mixing elbow for our Universal M25 engine. I will cover it with race car type exhaust manifold wrap after test fitting. Which will happen in about a week. Note that the salt water nipple is placed before the exhaust hose. Any opinions?

The shaft on the salt water pump was bent so I put in a new one. I'll take a look at the other pump, thanks.

Looks good. Be sure to use High Temp pipe dope when assembling the pipes.
