I have the internal outhaul system and a bolt rope main sail. I'm not sure the scope. All I want to do is bring it to the cockpit so that I'll be more incline to use it. The boom is in my shop so I will try to remove the end caps and reconfigure the internal set up. I'll have to figure out how much line I'll need to bring it back. You can see how it cleats to the boom now. It will be easy to run it down to a block and through the organizer back.

What I have noticed is it's not to difficult to flatten the sail but when I loosen it it take a bit to get it to slide back to increase the draft. It was better this past season with a heavy dose of McLube. Thanks for the suggestions. I was really trying to avoid removing the end caps as I'm sure Don can attest will be a bear.

You're either really slow, approaching the windward mark while your competitors have rounded and are heading downwind .... or .... you already rounded the downwind mark? ;)
;^) At WYC a typical Thursday night race will have 150 boats in 9 fleet using 7 starts and 6 courses created by 11 marks in the water. A full-time RC runs it. A bit crazy to the uninitiated!

In that picture we were heading upwind after a rounding... The earlier starting Capri 25s (on another course) were coming down! The picture is a screen grab from this video. The only boat in our fleet that was anywhere near us was the Merit 25 at the start of the video that sadly I had to duck!

Bob: What I think you'll find when and if you get the end caps off without breaking one or both (they're cheap pot metal and you'll have to drill out the screws) is that the problem with the system is a swivel block is the key to the system. I've never seen it but it's what folks tell me who have taken the system apart or have seen the drawing. The swivel somehow twists and even if you straighten it the thing will just twist again.

The biggest problem, if you stick with the internal system, is the pulling motion of the outhaul line -- it's downward and causes the slug to dig into the boom.

My experience with the boom is a funny story. I detached it from the mast and couldn't believe how heavy it was. My slip was 4 from the end so I had a hard hump to get it to the parking lot. That day, I had my wife's Toyota 4dr Camry company car, which I found was not up to the transportation job but I didn't want to hump the boom back to the boat so I tried to stick it in the car -- it didn't work and had my wife known what I was doing with her company car she'd have killed me. Anyway, I humped it back to the boat and used my p/u truck to get it home the next day. After I saw what I was up against with the end caps I just painted it and brought it back to the boat. By the way, from what I'm told, the end cap you need to get off is the front one.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I did not have a hard time removing said caps. I used a bf screwdriver and walked them off the boom.

The forward cap was fractured as I discovered when media blasting so I am glad I removed and replaced it.

Could flex the crack with my finger
