Go for a extra long shaft which is 25 inches. I like the Yamaha high thrust 8 or 9.9 horsepower. 8 would be big enough. My dad has a 9.9 on his 10,000 pound Irwin 30. It pushes it no problem, big prop has a lot of power. Also does better in reverse. The main thing is to keep prop in the water, get the longest shaft possible for a bad weather day.
