We've had the extra-long Tohatsu 6 for a couple seasons now, and I don't recall ever dragging it in the water when it's kicked up. I believe our motor mount is the normal 3-position one, stock from 1981 (at least CD's replacement rails fit it when I broke one of the originals, so I'm pretty sure it's standard).

ah you are right, there is an "ultra long shaft" for the Tohatsu. Not sure why I didn't remember that.

It probably does have a to do with my motor mount. I have a 1984 C22 with the original mount hardware (only the mounting plate has been replaced). When the mount is in the "up" position I cannot tilt the motor forward without hitting up against the pushpit rail, so I have to leave the motor in a vertical position. I'm curious to know your setup, since, judging by the pic, you clearly can tilt your motor forward. I couldn't find a suitable mount replacement to accommodate the ultra longs.

My old honda 75 was able to tilt forward, but the tohatsu head is slightly taller so it cannot. :(
