Have a 2008 ready to commission in a few months...need your help re where the outboard can be mounted/ stored on the stern or other rail...I have heard that an Edson motor mount can be installed, but it requires cutting away a section of the stern seat so the mount can grap the rail underneath....I'm not going to do that to this boat! Got to be another solution somewhere in the 450 or so H33 built so far....HELP? Thanks

I had trouble finding a spot for my motor mount as the rails were curved at every "T" on the boat. I solved it by using a square mount, a wood dowel, a 3/4" PVC sprinkler line "T" fitting and one stainless steel hose clamp. Might work for you as well, as all you need are two rails that are parallel.

The square motor mount goes on the top rail as usual. The PVC "T" is sliced length wise so you can open it up and slid it on the rail with the bottom of the "T" facing up. The dowel is cut so it goes from the "T" to inside the bottom of the motor mount. The hose clamp is used on the plastic "T" to clamp it on the rail and the dowel.

why don't you make your own mount like my friend's H33 (Yr 2007). Uses a rectangle HDPE cutting board. Double layer it at where the OBM clamp is, uses 2x U-bolts to secure the cutting board to 1 horizontal rail of the SS arch (port or starbd up to you). secure the lower part of the cutting to lower horizontal rail, either with a self-made aluminium "L" bracket & U-bolt or those 3/4"-1" plastic clip from Seafit? ( bought at WM).
Send me your email address and I can send you pictures of the mount.

Ken,
could I please get a copy of the home made motor mount for the '07 33? I have the same exact problem and have been looking around at different solutions.
thanks, Dave

Ken, I'd like to see a photo as well since this challenge is one I am also facing. I am trying to fit a 15 hp & crane onto a 33’ – a rather significant project. As temporary solution I bought an 8 HP with the idea of mounting it to the stern rail on a standard bracket, only to discover the standard brackets won’t fit.
Send me your email address and I can send you pictures of the mount.[/quote]

I used the 1 1/4 Edson on my 04 33. I'll get some pictures tonight and post them for you. Works great, have a Tohatsu 4HP 4 Stroke.

I used the Edson mount as well. Required a small notch cut in the rail seat but this was really not a big deal. The new 4-stroke outboards really are heavy and I felt that the Edson connecting to two spots on the rail provided a measure of security.

Bruce,

any of the ideas above will do the job...
I used some trex left over from my porch rebuild...
it's strong, weather proof and fits the space perfectly...
I only have a 3.5 nissan so it fits neatly on the starboard side of the aft rail between the seat and the walk through transom...
i used a 2 foot piece and a 7 inch piece, connected them with 3M 5200, smaller piece perpendicular to the longer one at one end...
the horizontal piece rests on the top rail providing excellent vertical support...
i attached the bracket to the rail using 3 SS U-bolts, 2 on the top rail and 1 on the bottom for stability...
this whole process is easier than it sounds...
i will make some photos and try to upload them tomorrow evening...

Bruce,

This may be a bit late but I have 2009 H33. I purchased an engine mount from West Marine and mounted it on the starboard pulpit rail. I did have to purchase some longer SS bolts and had to "pinch" the corners but it worked fine. I Have a 3 HP motor mounted there with no problems or modifications on the boat or rail.
