I have to buy a new outboard for my OD25. The old engine was a 9.9hp.I wanted to know if I could put a larger engine maybe a 15hp or would it be too much for the stern.

Many of the outboard on the market, use the same block for both the 9.9 and the 15 hp, and their is little if any difference in wieght. If it does weigh a tad more, it shouldn't be that much to make any difference. If you are planning to go from a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke, make sure you motor bracket can handle the weight, the 4 stroke motors are much heavier than their 2 stroke counterparts.Ben AllenMontgomery, AL"Latte Dah"O'Day 26

Good time to get the tank out

Good time to put in an internal fuel tank. Did mine last year, cost about $350 and it is great. No more "in the way" or smelly tank and with a 12 gallon tank, I fill up 2-3 times per season.Ric"comes a time"New Hampshire

Hello,I put a 4 stroker on my 22 by the following method...Take the motor off, go below and loosen off the mounting nuts, press a piece of box cardboard against the bolt to get a drilling pattern, get a 3/16 to 1/4 piece of alluminum that is say 6 inches square around the drilling pattern, drill it, bed it SikaFlex, crank up the nuts...I imagine this quickie to be good for a few more pounds, I also epoxied in some roving at the hull to deck and transom tabs as the transom on mine is not cored to the very top...Quick, not so dirty, you can cut aluminum with anything that will cut wood, just wax your blade...Shutup Sean...SH.

15 hp over kill

I don't think adding extra hp will give you anything extra but chosing the right prop will.I have a Honda power thrust 9.9 with a large flat prop that really digs in fighting current and also great in reverse.

Outboard options

I have a Yamaha 9.9 long shaft with reverse thrust...4 stroke....moves the OD 26 along just fine. A heavy duty bracket (with a piston-like lift) makes it aan easy in and out of the water.I agree that a 15 hp would probably be really more than you need.Good luck.L

15hp Honda

I have a 15 hp Honda on my 25 O'Day. Yep, it is way over powered but I like having the reserve. I motored the boat from Jacksonville down the east coast, across the lake and up the west coast to St Petersburg. After that trip the transom was pushing in and needed to be beefed up. I sanded out transom wood from inside and replaced it with 1/2 inch foam and 3 layers of glass/mat. The transom is rock solid now.
