Has anyone put an outboard on a c30? My 5411 is running fine, but I had a bad experience with the shaft key shearing off while I was IN THE HARBOUR. It worked out ok, but scared the crap out of me. It would have been nice to drop an outboard down and motor into a slip. I was thinking of the newer honda 9.9 4stroke longshafts with a heavy duty 4stroke bracket with a 15 inch rise on the lift. The 5411 is also a bit underpowered in some conditions and I wondered if I could run the outboard at the same time for some more power. I was thinking I could pull a bigger tender and use the outboard on it as well, with a riser to take care of the longshaft. Imagine... a planing tender!

Could be a good idea

I don't know how it would affect the looks of the boat, but if that isn't a concern for you then it could be a good backup. Here's a concern I have, though: What about the fuel tank for the outboard? You'll probably want to go with a motor that has a built-in gas tank. I don't know where you'd place an external one...in the cockpit? You probably don't want a 6 or 9 gallon tank shifting from side to side on that cockpit sole. Allen Schweitzer s/v Drambuie C-30 Hull# 632

Me Too! & the Fuel tank answer

I have the same thought. I already have the outboard, a 15hp (yep, the dink flies), and the transom bracket which I haven't mounted yet as I'm sure it will be unsightly there on the stern. The tank to get is the "dinghy mate" (I think that was the name) It is made to hang on your dinghy transom just under the motor. It really saves room in the dinghy. Miraculously, the hanging brackets also hang perfectly on the pushpit rail tubing, even a cutout for the stern light! It's right there & yet still out of the way! Let me know if you make the leap, I'd love to hear how she performs!
