Well, today was the day. "StarLyte" is out of the water and up on dry land.
It's amazing how quickly the Spring and Summer went by!
I haven't posted lately because it's been a very busy Fall.
I hope everyone had a safe and fun Summer!
Here's to some great upcoming holidays and a few winter projects!!!!!

Cheers!!!!! & be safe!

I pulled my boat out a few weeks ago Kevin and took it off the trailer last Saturday. The trailer is jacked up on blocks in the yard and my mast is wrapped with polytarp (chafe protection) and all ready for the 30' main tarp.
The new 60' high drawbridge on our river is due to open in the spring and the leafs of the old bridge removed. That means that I'll be getting out to the bay more often next year without having to call for bridge openings and trying to meet bridge operating schedules.
I haven't decided what kind of projects to tackle this winter. I've lost about 35 lbs this past summer and I feel great enough to tackle just about anything. Yes, the spring and summer did go by fast. Hopefully the winter will be equally fast so that we can be out there once again pursuing our favorite past time. For me it will be more adventures out on the bay with Penelope and trying some new recipes on the boat with occasional naps and a whole lot of overnighters in our favorite hook hangouts. Take care.

I got a pair of ski bibs yesterday from an Ebay store so I will be comfortable sailing through the winter. I feel for you snowed in sailors.

Lynn and I have had a great season too. It is our first year to be out on the water all season. I often go out and spend the first night by myself, sailing and tinkering with the boat, then lynn will show up the next day. I can't blame her for not wanting to be stuck with me in the boat for too long! I am happy to say that we get along well with each other, and with the boat and have a lot of fun.
I have found that My Girl sails well and points pretty good. She has gotten me out of a jam once or twice with her ability to go very shallow (aka get off a mud bar) with the centerboard up. Also she does well in very light air with the large light nylon gennie (sp?) set.
Last friday was a beautiful day; clear and gusty. I spent most of the afternoon alone getting my butt kicked around by gusts and limited seamanship. I had reefed the main and switched to my smallest foresail but still just couldn't get her to point well. I am not sure what i was doing wrong but I am looking forward to another day like that so I can try again. Lynn joined me that night and as the winds abated we had some beautiful clear blue skies and light airs. The next morning was as bright and clear as i have seen in years, so i got up on deck in my sleeping bag and watched one of the prettiest sunrises I have seen from the shores of our little lake. It was a shame to have to pack up and go home but I had chores to do at the house and then head to work. (that horrible four letter word)
All in all a great season. I have sure enjoyed all the beautiful pics and fun posts on this site.
cheers!

I just covered my boat this morning. It's all set for the winter's slumber. A couple of months ago I was out on the bay and ran aground twice in light airs. So you're not the only one who runs aground. I also ran into a red buoy on the river one day while sailing under the autopilot. I went down in the cabin to wash my dishes and like a dumbbell, I forgot about that buoy and ran into it. Anytime you have light airs and strong currents these buoys are like a giant magnet that will draw any boat right to them. That's life I guess. I'm looking forward to next year.
