I stopped in to get some fuel and ice and a friend says he read about our boat in Southwinds magazine. I had no idea what he was speaking of, so we went in the marina store and sure enough there was an article about the area we sail in that featured our previous boat Recess. Some friends we made while cruising wrote the article. It was quite the surprise today. The story is on page 52 and can be read online.

Nice reading, once I figured out if I was going to find that page 52 ... I would need to down load as a PDF first.

Awesome.

It so happens that our model of boat (Sandpiper 565) finally got a review in Small Craft Advisor - May/June 2013. There's a sidebar article about our annual get-togethers, and the accompanying picture includes our boat in a grouping of six, and the two barely visible people on the beach are my wife and me. Probably won't be online though :(

Is this the pic? Seven sailboats in there, with two rafted close enough to look like one, but there's two folks on the beach. Photo was from the site linked in your post.

No (but thanks for checking :) )

The picture the magazine used was from last year's get-together. If I find I'll post.

(and I didn't mean to steal RECESS's thunder. Just a publishing coincidence. Getting our 15 minutes of fame, as Andy Warhol would say)

No thunder to be stolen. It was just cool that we had no idea it was going to happen. I think I learned From the article picture, it maybe a good idea to shave and comb my hair even when out cruising. Reeled in two Spanish mackerels while sailing today. Went from a couple hours of three knots and trolling to seven knots on a reach and the wife screaming at me to put my horns away. It has been a good two days on the water. Caught and cooked black sea bass last night. I love ths life.

<long sigh> I just took the tarp off this afternoon, and the ribs are still in place. Lot of work to do yet, and the weather's been spring-like for only a day or two. It'll go back to crap soon. I'm sure of that.

(Note to self: Move Someplace Warmer!)

I hear you. On the north side of your lake, a few thousand boats have just gone into the water this weekend, which might raise the lake level by about a foot ;)

We are definitely tired of doing winters, but I confess I still like spring and summer around here.
