Origo 6000 Stove/Oven

Hi all, I'm in the process of sourcing a new stove/oven for my H34. The one of the previous owners removed the original unit which I believe was alcohol since there is no plumbing for CNG or Propane. Any input (pros and cons) for non pressurized alcohol units appreciated. I don't want to go through the hassle of a propane locker, etc., hence my question.

I have a propane "Princess" on my boat and love it but there is no good place for a locker. I have cooked on the Origo's on other people's boats and I really like them. If you are kinda "weekending" and short cruises, it is a fine stove.. There are some things to watch..just like a propane stove.. I think the info is pretty well covered in the instruction manual..

Many thanks. I'm not opposed to propane but the locker is the kicker.

RL: We had an Origo stove/oven combo on our H'31 and really liked it. They are a little expensive. You may want to check around at some of the boat swaps, salvage and used gear places.

The only thing I would have to say about them is they may not cook quite as hot as some other fuels. But when you are sailing that is all you have is time.

Many thanks for your input. I've been checking around. Even defender still lists a new one for $1600.00. Yes, we do have time.

My previous boat was plumbed for LNG, no locker really needed, tank was stored in locker under helm, pressure regulator etc. required. Liked the unit. Current 34 has the Origo, it was a little dirty, removed entire unit and ran through the dishwasher (except canisters for alcohol) looks new, easy to use. A little slower to cook, but then let's not be in a rush, were sailing.

Mark: are you referring to CNG. If that is the case you are correct. The problem is CNG is not readily available in all markets.

So. Cal. should not be an issue. They have many CNG stations througout the area. If you have 2 cng bottles that will last about 1 year of weekend usage.

RL: Have you considered just replacing the stove section and having a cabinet made to replace the oven section. This would allow you to still have a stove at a reasonable price. No oven but maybe not too important?

Mark, thanks for your input. CNG could be a good option, too. Seems most of the input is on slow cooking but since we sail, slow is the norm!

Steve, Many thanks, again! I haven't checked with Minney's yet but will. I like your cabinet idea but also like to have the oven on more than just a few occasions. I think I'll sit patient until a good deal comes along then find a big dishwasher and take Mark's lead for a good cleaning!

You may also consider a small microwave where the oven would go and then the stove top.

Steve, thanks. I have a microwave above and aft of the icebox with a cutout in the bulkhead and sits flush. Your input is valuable. Thanks!

If you did find an Origo used combo stove/oven, I removed mine, stripped the ugly and damaged beige paint off, lightly sanded the stainless sides and front, and repainted using high heat black fireplace paint. People thought I had bought a new unit ! I love the Origo and have lived on the boat for up to a 9 month's cruise. Here are a few pictures of before, during and after clean-up job. The canisters were in perfect shape and I am still using them. Good luck

When I bought my 34 early this year it came with the Origo non-pressurized and I had the stove pegged as my first upgrade. After using it I'm totally happy and have no intention to change. I have to say the oven doesn't seem to heat up that well but the previous owner swears he did baking in it. I just use it to warm plates.

Did you do anything with the glass? I've not found a replacment door which needs work, but about to do the same thing with mine this weekend.
