For Mark and Chuck
>>"will it be safe to mount navigation/electronics on the aft end of the pop-top facing the cockpit? Will that be OK???"<<Thats where the compass on ours was mounted, with an electrical wire for the light, and we will also mount the depth sounder there. We should be in the water some time next month and I'll let you know how it works.Chuck, our portlites were so stress-cracked that you couldn't see out of them. Also, the layers and layers of caulk were downright ugly. Even after I scraped my fingers to the bone removing caulk, we decided to remove and replace the portlites. The 4 new custom-cut plexiglass pieces cost $75.00. We tinted them with auto sheets, even though the instructions say not to use on plexiglass - they are downright beautiful. But when my husband went to put them back into the gaskets, we ran into a problem with the gaskets being too hard and brittle. We were unable to find anything comparable, so he bought some clear vinyl tubing, 3/8" X 1/4" in the plumbing dept. at Menards ($7). He oh so carefully slit the tubing with a straight edge razor blade, fitted the new portlites into it, and then into the frames. The fit seems pretty good, and we will put them back into port openings today, and caulk with clear. We'll test for leaks and I'll let you know in the next few days how it turned out. (I think hubby said a pop-rivet gun cost around $20.)Out of desperation to remove the last of the caulk remaining on the aluminum portlite frames, I boiled them. And it worked.Deb
