opening the compression post on an '86- 30'

I want to run the feed for a new masthead mount wind speed/direction unit thru the mast and down thru the teak compression post (if I can) and on to the cockpit. Can I open the post and access a wire conduit or am I nuts to try? The bungs and screws are out of the aft facing board but I don't see an easy solution. Help!

Thru the bilge

Can you not access the conduit from the bilge at the foot of the post, under the floor, and pull your new cable thru the same conduit? Just a thought. Ed
