So I finally made it to Triple Play this weekend. It is an alternate year, so I just had to bottom paint the waterline, leading edges and any bare spots. Of course, I got a late start and we had plans for the evening so in the remaining hour I had I went to work trying to remove my water tank.

There seemed to be quite a gap between the hull and the flat sheet of plywood on top of the tank so silly me, I thought I would cut it with my sawzall...bad idea...that fiberglass tabbing is TOUGH and I couldn't get the tip of the saw to bite. Then it did. Then the oops happened. I could see daylight. Through my hull. Not good. Clearly the sun had addled my brain somehow. Luckily it is a small hole (see the bright dot in the center of the photo) above the waterline in the boot stripe. JB Weld to the rescue.

I KNEW I had the wrong tool for the job and I persisted so I have nobody to blame but me. I knew I should have used my vibratory Dremel saw, but didn't bring it or the extension cord. I was a bit manic when I packed...unsure exactly what I could accomplish...so I really didn't bring everything. Plus I was thinking I would just take my circular saw, set it to a shallow depth, cut most of the plywood out and then just "cut around the corners" with the sawzall. I clearly wasn't thinking about how the confined space and size of the battery pack would limit how far into at least two of the corners I could cut.

Oh well. I was trying to get a big ticket neglected maintenance item off my to do list, so my heart was in the right place. Too bad about my brain though.

It is really going to be fun pulling that tank out. I hope it fits down the passage!

S2 9.2A Water Tank

Have you read the lengthy letter that S2 wrote some years ago about the parts and support that they can (and can't) provide? In it they said that if a part looks like it won't come out without disassembly it probably won't. It looks to me like the tank was installed before the deck was installed. More work for the Sawzall. Let us know what tank you used to replace the old one. Ronco makes many sizes and shapes of plastic tanks.

Re: S2 9.2A Water Tank

A few owners have removed theirs, even whole, so I am sure it can be done...just looks like fun. I am sure you are right, that it went in before the deck went on.

the tank will come out in one unit.......i cut the whole cover board out as close to the hull sides as i could with out cutting the hull ....then i had to dig out the foam that was in there holding the tank in place....once i got it loose i had to raise the tank from the foward end first....you may have to cut some of he reinforcement 1x's out as well....
i then went through the process of decideing what kind of tank to put back in....the end result was to make a new tank out of aluminum just like the old one and install it back in .....

Well, I figured if I cut the bow off I could pull it right off. Nothing a little JB Weld can't put back together LOL. Woody, any updated photos? You must be getting close to launch.

Ow OW OW, I really hate when that happens... I always feel so..."experienced" after I do one of those. On the bright side, it leads to new and exciting repair projects!

I think I will dish it out a little on the inside and then JB weld it. The hole is above the water line and is only the size of a pin head, so I don't want to dish it on the outside and have to touch up the stripe significantly.

I am still trying to find time to get back to it. Flew down to visit my Mom in FL last weekend and my Wife has me booked solid this weekend...unless I go over the wall...which may lead to the guard shooting me!

JB Weld? Yikes!! I'd go to West Marine and get the West System 2 part epoxy in the convenient caulking gun-sized self-mixing tube. Scarf that hole out and shoot some epoxy into it, adding some chopped 'glas fibers for good measure. Probably just as easy as JB and it bonds so much better to fiberglas.
