I have an older (75) Catalina 27 with the storage area up front in the V birth area. I have converted this area into an anchor locker, however the area is really limited in size. Have any of you enlarged this storage area to hold more anchor rode; and if so, how did you do it? For the Pacific North West with our deeper anchoring requirements, I have a line of 250 feet and chain of 30 feet, the area won't support this much line - any suggestions?

c27 anchor locker

RSN48, I'm not sure about your specific setup, but we too have a 1975 C27, and we carry 250ft of 1/2in golden braid, plus 36 feet chain, and I'd say that we can easily carry an additional 50-75 feet of rode. When we had 1/2in 3-strand, we could only carry 125ft plus our chain. We never had to enlarge the area. Peter

Peter - where did you get your braid?

Peter, where did you purchase the braid. I sent off an email to the manufacture requesting a retailer location close to me and they didn't reply. Also I am assuming it is more; if you don't mind me asking how much was your 250 feet of braid?

Cost of golden braid

I bought it at the chandlery at Wesport in Sidney (Jensen's Marine). It's been a couple of years now, but I think I paid about $180 or so for 250ft, but not much more than that. If we were in the US, I'd likely have ordered it online, but I've been stung by some of the duties and tranport costs a couple of times on boat items. Peter

Peter - best not to use Fedex, UPS, etc

When shipping to Canada from the states, I've learned over time its best to send it through the regular postal system; it might take 2 or 3 weeks but the shipping is cheaper and they don't automatically add all the "extra's" on, like the private delivery systems do. I just bought a used sextant from a chap in Hawaii and only $18 was added at the end but it took 3 weeks from Hawaii.
