older 320 bilge - two questions

I have a 1994 C320. My main shallow bilge has three hoses in it. One is connected to the manual pump in the cockpit, the middle one attaches to the electric pump. The third one is on the starboard side. Where does this drain from ? The small bilge under the stuffing box drains to the main bilge via a hole in the center. When the boat heels to starboard, water from the stuffing box also drains to another hole cut out on the starboard side where the plumbing connects to the aft water tank. Does the water from there drain to the bilge or into the starboard compartments ? (I found water there again this year). I have the only 320 in the marina, so nothing to compare with.

Is the head on the starboard side and is there a

floor drain and not a sump pump to remove the shower water? If so, this is what the third hose is, lot of Catalinas drain the shower to bilge for the bilge pump to remove instead of sump pump in the head. I seem to recall mention with a problem of drainage to the bilge on some 320's, have you checked with the 320 Organizations website, they have a forum which may have some of the info you need. Might also check this forum below, appears you do have a sump pump. http://www.catalina320.org/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=5&showtopic=26

I have a 1997 C320. The shower has a thru hull (under the head sink) and a pump to pump its water overboard. My 12v refrig drains into the bilge.

Me again

Thanks guys. My 320 has a sump pump in the shower that discharges via a through hull. The shallow bilge in the cabin is connected to a series of bilge pockets under the floor. It resembles an ice cube tray. When the boat heels, water flows from one pocket to another. It never really seems to return to the main shallow bilge to get pumped out. Any water that spills under the galley sink area does not flow to the bilge, but rather to the port area underneath the seat. By heeling, that water can then flow over to the starboard side where the holding tank is. I suspect water from the stuffing box is also running into the area under the cabin seats, as there is no connection to the bilge system. I guess if I get a dripless packing gland, I can eliminate some of the problem. I know of no way to cure it. It's appears to be a design problem.
