old Oday 22 displacement

Hi all, I have never gone to the trouble of weighing my 1976 Oday 22 on the trailer. All the specs I've seen consistently list the displacement as 2,083 lbs. It would seem to me, however, that the old shoal keel model like mine, with 600 lbs of ballast, would have a different displacement than the later centerboard version with 800 or 900 lbs ballast. Does anyone know if the 2,083 lbs. listed refers to the shoal keel model or the centerboard model? Has anyone actually weighed their 22 on the trailer to find out how much they're hauling? I'm thinking of moving up to a 500 lb. heavier boat. My 3.4 liter V-6 Toyota Tacoma is pulling my Oday fine, but I wouldn't want to add a lot more. Thus the reason for trying to figure out the weight of the old 22. I realize that displacement and "trailer weight" are different, but at least displacement would give me an apples to apples comparison. Thanks!

...the 2,083 is right for the shoal draft model. It changed in 1979 I think to a little heavier. I have a 1975, never bothered to weigh it. I have a manual for them that says you can ad ballast up to a couple of hundred pounds to it. For what it's worth. Jack

fwiw, the "minimum trailering weight" of the later centerboard model is listed as 2183 lbs., not 2083 lbs. If you add sails, engine, gear, fuel, portapottie, assorted crap, etc, you are looking at another 200-300 lbs. on top of that. Also, I didn't think there was 300 lbs. worth of difference in the ballast weight of the two models; the Oday centerboard doesn't weigh all that much, maybe 80 lbs. I have been on both models and seen both while on the hard, and aside from the interior arrangements, I didn't notice any significant differences in their appearance. I don't know where Oday would put the extra 300 lbs. of lead in that small hull. If anything, I would have expected the centerboard model to have less ballast; after all, there is no lead in the centerboard slot.

Total weight

I weighed my trailer/boat combo on the scales at a truck stop last summer and the combined weight was abt 3800 lbs. I have a 76 Oday 22 with the 600 lb shoal keel that you describe and it was loaded with all the usual gear. The trailer is a single axle with surge brakes and spare tire/wheel. Hope that helps.
