When changing oil today in my 2gm20f I placed a piece of blue marker tape on the oil suction tube I inserted into the dipstick hole to match the depth of the dipstick. When removing the tube after sucking out the sump the tape remained in the sump. What type of problems can this cause? Will the filter pick this up? Should I remove the sump cover and try to retrieve that way?

Appreciate all responses. I still can't believe I did that.

Thanks, Jerry

Most likely is fine, Jerry. There is a screen on the oil pickup where the tape will probably stick and stay. The screen is not really fine but it will stop a piece of tape. The screen is about 3 inches in diameter so there is plenty of space to pass oil with a little tape on the screen. If the engine is not run a lot after the oil change, the tape will probably sink to the bottom of the oil pan and sit there.. until it bugs you enough to pull the oil pan .. not a hard task.

Make sure your oil pressure sensor is working properly and don't worry about the tape. Any serious problem with oil flow and pressure would be detected by the sensor prior to any damage. I concur with Claude but just mention this so you may rest at ease.
